(Skip Part One ~ If You Know Your Block~N~Tackle Basics.)
[PART ONE] ~
First thought to have been devised by
Archimedes on the Island of Syracuse sometime around 237 B.C.E. ...
Basic Physics ... you pass a rope through pulleys and gain a percentage
mechanical advantage for lifting or pulling horizontally with each drop
of rope ... disadvantages, only two, ... (#1) ~ The higher you go up with your
mechanical advantage the more rope you must move to attain your goal ...
1 to 1 ~ 25 feet ... you're lifting 100% of the weight, but only must
move 25 feet of rope ... 2 to 1, (same 25 feet), you're lifting 50% of
the weight, but must move 50 feet of rope ... 3 to 1, (same 25 feet),
you're lifting 33% of the weight, but must move 75 feet of rope ... 4 to
1, (same 25 feet), you're lifting 25% of the weight, but must move 100
feet of rope ... 5 to 1, (same 25 feet), you're lifting 20% of the
weight, but must move 125 feet of rope ... takes a bit more time to move
the long rope lengths but is physically a lot easier! Disadvantage (#2)
~ All Standard *B~N~T* Systems pull back with the equal weight you're
trying to lift between every lift stroke, (except our *99* Systems ~ See
below for Details!*)
[PART TWO] ~
Definitions:
*BLOCK*
= Top Head or Pulley ...
*TACKLE*
= Pulleys that are Mounted under the Top Head Block or
Pulley & the Lower / Traveler Pulleys & Normally the Rope or Line is
also referred to as a Part of the Tackle ...
*BIGHT*
= The Termination / End Point / at the Load Side of the
System ... *LOAD~SIDE~ROPES*
= the Ropes that Suspend the Load ...
*FREE~SIDE~ROPE*
= The Rope you Pull on to Move your Load, and Allow to Slip through Your
Handle & Fingers to Control Descent ...
*HANDY~BILLY*
= Another Name, (In Nautical Speak), for a Small Portable Block~n~Tackle
... *PURCHASE*
= Another Name for the Tackle ...
*FALL*
= The Free-Side Rope ...
*BECKET*
= Either the *Bight* Tie~Off Point Under the Top Head Assembly (or) the
Lower Karabiner Mounting Hole in the Bottom / Traveler Pulley, (or), any
Pulley Attachment Point ...
*OFF~SET~BECKET*
= Opposite Side of Pulley Mounting Point from Above
Captioned Becket!
HOW THE
PATENTED SYSTEM
*99* WORKS:
The *99* System is the Most
Versatile ‘RESCUE and UTILITY ~ WORK SYSTEM’ Available Today.
The SYSTEM *99* is a Mechanical ~ Advantage
‘Block~N~Tackle’ ... Lifting System.
With a
Constant~High~Percentage~Friction~Lowering-Brake.
This is the Latest “EVOLUTION” of the
Block~N~Tackle.
This Light~Weight, Compact, Universal System can be set up in a few
Seconds, and can Perform a Wide Variety of Functions.
One Person can
Operate this System, Raise~and~Lower Him/Her~Self ... without the
Help of
a Co~Worker. Should an Emergency Situation Occur ... a Top~Side Observer
/ Worker can Utilize the SYSTEM *99* to ‘RESCUE’ an Incapacitated Co~Worker. Additionally the SYSTEM *99* can be used to
Raise and Lower
Tools and Equipment.
Concept:
Think
of a 'Windless' ... or a Sailboat 'Deck~Mounted~Winch' ...
OR ~ 'a
Running~Spool~Capstan~Winch' ... 'a Stationary Block' ... that is
Mounted on a 4.75" by 8.5" by 3/8" Thick Aircraft Aluminum
Backing Plate
... Weighing 3.5 Pounds ... Providing 360 Degree Portability ...
at any Angle ... in any Direction.
The
3.5 pound SYSTEM *99*Friction Brake Head 'Block~Assembly'
Consists of a 3.5" Diameter by 2" Deep
Aircraft Aluminum Capstan~Roller~Drum ... Mounted on a 4.75" by 8.5" by 3/8"
Thick Aircraft Aluminum Backing Plate with an Off~Set Bend ... so it Hangs
Straight Under Load ... Mounted Inside the Drum
is an “Anti~Reverse” Spin~Lock, (Sprague~Clutch). The Rope Containment Area of the
Drum is
3/8" Thick.
The Rope / Capstan / Drum / Rides on a 3/4”
Steel Carrying Bolt, and is Supported on Sealed Ball~Bearings.
The System *99* Utilizes our Special ‘ISE’ Series 3000 ... 3/8”, (9.5mm),
Diameter
Kernmantle, (Core~Sheathed), Rope, which is Wrapped 2.5 times around the
Roller~Drum, (thus
Creating 900 Degrees of Surface Contact Area). This Special Rope has a Breaking
Strength of
6,000
Pounds,
is Decay, and Rot Resistant, and can With~Stand Temperatures in Excess of
400 Degrees.
The
Three
'Teflon' ® ... Coated Rope Guides Located around the Drum keep the
Rope from Tangling or Overlapping ... and Tracking Properly.
All the
Aircraft Aluminum
Components are Coated with a 'Mil~Spec' Coating ... to Resist
Corrosion.
When Lowering a Person or Object the Roller Drum Automatically
Locks,
(in Essence Becoming a *BOLLARD* / or a *BITT*) ... and the 2.5 turns, (Coils), of
Rope, (900 Degrees of Surface Contact
Area), Around the ‘Stationary~Drum’
Provides a **90% to **95%
Friction Braking Action.
This Means that 10 to
20 Pounds of Force on the Free~Side Rope is all that is Required to Hold
a 200 Pound Load Stationary ... or Control its Descent.
If the Rope is
Wrapped 1.5 times around the Drum, (540 Degrees of Surface Contact Area)
... a **55% to **60% Friction
Braking Action is Provided.
[**] ~ All Braking
Percentages are Estimates, and are Based on ... New / Clean / Dry
/ Rope.
When an Object is being Lifted / Raised ... the Rope
Drum ... on the
Head 'Block~Assembly' ...
[Automatically~and~Instantly] ~ ‘Free~Wheels’, (Counter~Clockwise),
which Releases the Friction Braking Action.
By adding the 'Tackle' ... (Roller~Pulleys) ... to the load side ~ under the Backing~Plate ~ we are creating a
Block~N~Tackle. [A Mechanical~Advantage~Lifting~System].
The
90% ~ to ~ 95% Friction Brake is Automatically and Instantly Re~Activated
Whenever the Operator stops Pulling on the Free~Side Rope Hard Enough to
make the Drum Turn.
Although
Normally used Vertically ... this System can be used Horizontally ... or in a
Compound, (Horizontal to Vertical), Application.
Our Stock # 2299 *Custom~Edge~Roller* is Particularly Useful for this.
We use only *Made in USA* Steel,
Aluminum, Stainless Steel & All Other Materials ~ No Foreign made JUNK!

MANY, MANY, MORE ~ WHO WORK AT HEIGHT OR AT DEPTH...
And, is also

*Man~Overboard* Rescue System, & for Self~Lifting / Installing /
Removal / of any Heavy Auxiliary Yachting Equipment, such as an Outboard
Motor.
